MANILA, Philippines—A transport strike headed by the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahang Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) was felt in different parts of Metro Manila on Monday.
Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that they have monitored around 300 rallyists all over Metro Manila as of 8 a.m.
Around 100 vehicles from PNP and Metro Manila Development Authority have been deployed to give free rides to commuters, Cruz said.
“The transport strike continues because the dialogue with Aquino was not substantial,” said PISTON secretary general George San Mateo in a text message.
He also said that Malacañang’s statement on Piston’s proposal to amend the oil deregulation law was not true.
“Ang inihayag ng Piston sa diyalogo kay [Aquino] ay proposals na nananawagan sa pagbasura sa Oil deregulation law at pagpapatupad ng regulasyon at hindi amendments sa oil deregulation law,” he said.
