Jinggoy Estrada, police await court’s decision on detention facility

MANILA, Philippines–‎The Fifth Division of the Sandiganbayan has yet to decide where Senator Jinggoy Estrada will be detained after ordering his arrest on Monday morning.

Chief Superin‎tendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, Philippine National Police Public Information Office (PNP PIO) chief, told reporters that the police will bring the arrest warrant back to the court of origin in Sandiganbayan.

From there, the anti-graft court will issue a commitment and detention order indicating where Estrada should be held.

To minimize the security entourage, Sindac said only the personnel of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detention Group (CIDG) would return the arrest warrant.

“In the meantime, Senator Estrada and his family will wait here for the comm‎itment, custodial and detention order from the Sandigan(bayan),” he said.

Estrada was accompanied by his family and parents Dr. Loi Ejercito and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, to whom he surrendered.

Although the police official could not confirm yet if Estrada would be detained at the PNP Custodial Center, the PNP had already converted a four-door detention bungalow in anticipation of the Senator’s arrest.

Co-accused and friend Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. was committed by the Sandiganbayan’s First Division at the Custodial Center.
