MANILA, Philippines – Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada on Monday morning left his home at Corinthian Hills in Quezon City to drop by his father’s house in San Juan before surrendering.
Television footage showed the senator, who is facing plunder and graft for his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam, being accompanied by family members as he left their house. Beside him was his youngest daughter whom he said was the most affected by the arrest.
“I will submit myself to the rule of law,” he told media during a televised interview.
Estrada will first visit his father, former president and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, at Polk St. in San Juan before submitting himself to either the Sandiganbayan or the Camp Crame.
Estrada is facing one count of plunder and 11 counts of graft for allegedly misusing the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
The senator earlier told Inquirer that he would immediately and quietly surrender to the court and would not wait for the arrest warrant. He said he hopes the court would allow him bail amid plunder being a non-bailable offense.
