MANILA, Philippines – The children of Janet Lim-Napoles, alleged mastermind in the pork barrel scam, each posted a P450,000 bail through a surety bond before the Sandiganbayan on Friday.

Jo Christine and James Christopher Napoles, who were charged with graft after they were linked to the scam, met with Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang.

Napoles’ children wore hooded jackets that hid their faces as they were escorted to the Presiding Justice’s office.

Asked why there was a need to meet her, Tang said in a text message: “This is a routine procedure we require of the accused who posts bail. This is to make sure that the person who surrenders and claims to be the accused is the same accused in the case pending before us.”

Aside from Napoles’ children, others who posted bail were: Nits Cabilao, P450,000; Fernando Ramirez, P450,000; Jesus Castillo, P30,000; Dorilyn Fabian, P60,000 and Renato Ornopia, P90,000.

Under the law, bail can either be cash or check for the full amount, property worth of the full amount, surety bond – a guaranteed payment of the full bail amount and waiver of payment or release on one’s own recognizance.

Alpha Insurance and Surety Company and Far Eastern Surety and Insurance Co. facilitated the processing of the Napoles children’s surety bond payment.
