MANILA, Philippines–It did not spend P25 million on the construction of a new house for its chief, the Philippine National Police said on Thursday.
This after PNP Director General Alan Purisima admitted in a television interview Wednesday night that a new official residence for him was built recently in Camp Crame, after he initially denied it on air.
He, however, said he was not aware how much the house cost, but reports claimed it was P25 million.
“The two-story structure is actually a donation of (Purisima’s) friends in the Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines,” PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac told the Inquirer on Thursday.
“But there was no cash donation. The assistance came in the form of construction materials and labor,” he said.
The new official residence is known as the White House due to its color, just like its predecessor’s abode which is located right beside it near the Santolan Gate of Camp Crame, the PNP’s national headquarters in Quezon City.
Sindac said Purisima’s friends offered to help build the new structure after the old White House was submerged in floodwaters triggered by the southwest monsoon last year.
