BROWNSVILLE, Texas—Customs and Border Protection officials gave tours Wednesday of Border Patrol facilities in Texas and Arizona that hold thousands of immigrant children until they are transferred to shelters.

The minors were caught entering the country illegally amid a surge of immigration from Central America in recent weeks. They are held at the facilities in Brownsville, Texas, and Nogales, Arizona, until they are processed and taken to detention centers across the country.
