MANILA, Philippines — The weather bureau said on Wednesday it is monitoring a possible weather disturbance over the West Philippine Sea.
Alvin Pura, weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said they were tracking a cloud cluster in the West Philippine Sea that could form into a low pressure area.
On Tuesday, Pagasa declared the onset of rainy season, making the southwest monsoon or “habagat” the prevailing weather system in the next few months.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression “Ester” continued to move away from the country as of Wednesday afternoon.
The southwest monsoon, however, will bring moderate to heavy rains over the Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan Groups of Islands, Ilocos and Cordillera regions and the provinces of Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan.
Residents in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
