Roadside talk ends in Munti cop’s slay

The Las Piñas City police are tracking down the two men PO1 Louie Soledad was last seen talking to before he was killed early Saturday morning on Alabang-Zapote Road, Barangay Almanza Uno. A vendor who saw the shooting told investigators that Soledad, a member of the Muntinlupa police, was on his motorcycle and talking to two men who were also on a bike around 2:40 a.m. One of the men suddenly drew a pistol and shot the officer several times. Moments before the killing, the shooter’s companion was heard telling him: “Pare, ‘wag na (never mind),” said Las Piñas police chief Senior Supt. Adolfo Samala, quoting the witness. Investigators noted that Soledad’s cell phone had text messages coming from an unnamed sender who was asking about his location and setting up a meeting. The victim, who was off-duty at that time, lived at the New Bilibid Prison reservation and previously reported to the Las Piñas police before his transfer to Muntinlupa last year, Samala said.
