San Mateo Police Chief Col. Lucilo Laguna Jr. was quoted in the report as saying Larry Lorena, 49, strode around the neighborhood and fired his 9-mm caliber gun around 4 p.m. on Friday.
The suspect then went inside his house at AFP Housing, Barangay Silangan with his 10-year-old daughter. Police later ruled out that the man tried to hostage his child.
Police tried to stop the suspect who kept on shooting at the police officials with his gun.
Around 4 a.m on Saturday, however, the suspect went outside the gate of his house and fired at the police.
The suspect was hit in the shootout. He was brought to the hospital but later died from the wounds he had sustained.
The suspect was said to be a former employee of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The man was also abandoned by his wife two years ago, the report said.
