No one was reported hurt, but the explosion damaged a brand new car, according to Senior Inspector Nestor Santacera, deputy commander of the Mandurriao District police station.
Santacera said the strong explosion at the Toyota display center in Barangay (village) San Rafael about 2:45 a.m. damaged a Toyota 2014 Vios that was among those on display.
The car’s right fender and front windshield were damaged believed to be by grenade shrapnel.
Two security guards of the display center who were on duty during the incident reported the explosion to the police.
Investigators recovered a safety lever of an M26A1 hand grenade, a coil spring and grenade fragments.
Police are still investigating the cause and circumstances of the explosion.
