MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Friday said the 50-centavo fare increase approved by the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) went through a thorough assessment and deliberation.

“We note that before deciding to grant a fifty-centavo fare increase, the LTFRB considered the rights and welfare of the commuting public, as well as those of the PUJ operators and drivers,” Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.

“Hence, the LTFRB sought the assistance of Neda (National Economic Development Authority) and DOE (Department of Energy), in ascertaining if there is factual basis for a reasonable increase, then decided on a fair application of the Cost Recovery Method,” Coloma added.
