MANILA, Philippines—Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV has announced his plan to run for a higher position in 2016.
Trillanes, whose term ends in 2019, disclosed this plan in a late night interview over ABS-CBN’s “Bandila” Thursday night.
In the program’s segment where a guest is asked to answer only “yes” or “no,” an anchor asked the senator if he would run for vice president in 2016.
Responding to the question, Trillanes said: “Let’s just say yes, tatakbo ako. Ngayon, kung anong position, I will abide by the Nacionalista Party.”
(Let’s just say yes, I will run. As for what position, I will abide by the Nacionalista Party)
Asked again if he would like to run for vice president, Trillanes said: “I’m ready.”
As to who would be his running mate, the senator again said: ” I’m going to run for a higher position. Ngayon kung ano mang positon ‘yan…so kung ano man yun, I will abide by the decision of the Nacionalista Party.”
