No rubout in death of 8 suspected robbers in Cavite—PNP
MANILA, Philippines—It’s not a rubout. Or maybe not just yet.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) maintained on Wednesday that they did not see any irregularities in the recent shootout where eight members of a notorious robbery group were killed by policemen in a remote area in Cavite province.
On Tuesday, armed members of the Alingaro Robbery Hold-up Group and their leader, a certain Danilo Lanzaga, alias “Glen,” died in a shootout with the Cavite police in Barangay (village) Litlit at the boundary of Silang and Amadeo towns around 1:30 p.m.
Police said nine gang members were about to pull a heist at a hardware store. After the police were tipped off, they blocked the suspects in a checkpoint where an encounter occurred.
“Given the facts that have been presented to us, everything seems to be in order. We have not seen any violation (on the part of the police) yet,” Sindac said in Filipino.
But he said the PNP would still look into the possibility that “something anomalous” might have happened in the encounter.
