MANILA, Philippines—After an unfortunate series of events, detained leftist rebel Andrea Rosal has only one entity to blame, the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.

In a statement, Rosal said the Aquino administration have continuously charged “made-up” cases against “innocent civilians.”

She said that there are now words to express her grief upon losing her first-born, two-day-old Baby Diona Andrea, while she was still in the custody of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

“All my pent-up rage on the inhumane treatment towards me and my daughter and the filing of made-up charges against me,” Rosal said in the statement.

“I strongly condemn the illegal arrest that the elements from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces on March 27, when I was on my way for my check-up.”

She said that the BJMP’s treatmet of her did not befit the needs of a woman who was on her 8th month of pregnancy.

Rosal added that she had to sleep on the pavement due to the uncomfortable bed that the BJMP gave her in the ladies’ dormitory of Camp Bagong Diwa and that the officilas of BJMP refused to let her use an electric fan inside her poorly ventilated room.

“There wasn’t a regular doctor that could check on me during my sensitive days,” Rosal said. “I even have to buy my own food because the food served to us were not suitable for my condition.”

Rosal added that her predicament became worse when she went back and forth from the Philippine General Hospital to Camp Bagong Diwa as officials from the BJMP did not advise her doctor that she would be brought to the state-run hospital.

“There might be no sadder feeling than a mother embracing her first-born, who is now a cold and lifeless baby,” Rosal said. “When I was weeping, the officials of the BJMP never even gave me some privacy as they were in the same room as me.”

Rosal now wishes to be with her child on the wake and on the burial.

“I thank the people who have been with me and those who have supported me in this fight, I wish for your continued support for my cry for justice and to have those responsible in killing my child get their dues.”
