SHS-JAA kicks off constitutional convention

THE Sacred Heart School-Jesuit Alumni Association (SHS-JAA) held  the kick-off ceremony of its first-ever constitutional convention last Aug. 19 at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu.

Representatives from the Cebu Jesuit community, the school administration, the council of past presidents, the board of trustees as well as the different batch representatives gathered to celebrate the momentous event.

At the start of the year, the 2011 SHS-JAA board of trustees expressed goal to adopt measures institutionalizing their association.

To achieve this, the board decided to update and ratify an alumni constitution that can help guide future administrations in leading and managing the association.

A core group was formed to draft the constitution.

The core group is composed of Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) president Rev. Fr. Manuel Uy, SHS-AdC board member and SHS-JAA past president Jack Huang, SHS-JAA past president lawyer Michael Yu, SHS-JAA past president and current SHS-JAA board treasurer Regan Rex King and current SHS-JAA board president Edmun Liu.

The core group recently underwent a whole-day workshop facilitated by three people who shared their knowledge and experiences, namely: Patricio Pineda III, vice president of Global Key Accounts and Client Advisory Services of Oracle Corp. and a former alumni president of the University of Chicago;  lawyer Felix Sy Jr., an SHS-B alumni who is currently the corporate secretary of Jesuit Volunteers Philippines; and Romeo Dalandan Jr., director for alumni relations in the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Consultations are being conducted with the different constituents to craft the final version of the constitution.

The association said they hoped that the final ratification of the constitution will be achieved when the key constituencies convene for their alumni constitutional convention on Oct. 5.

All batch representatives are invited to register for the event.
