JHONNEL Ababa accomplished the improbable as he scored a closing one-under 70 to come back from seven strokes down and defeat Cassius Casas for the championship in the ICTSI Riviera Classic at the Riviera’s Langer layout in Silang, Cavite.
The win also frustrated erstwhile leader Jay Bayron, who crumbled down the stretch with an 81.
Ababa came through with three birdies in the last 11 holes to fuel his title bid.
He then watched Bayron throw away strokes in the last six holes to snatch the crown, his second in the last five legs of the circuit. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
