Soldier slain in firefight

A soldier was killed while four others were wounded when Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) rebels ambushed a military convoy in Datu Unsay town, Maguindanao province, on Monday morning.

Col. Dickson Hermoso, spokesperson of the military’s 6th Infantry Division, said BIFF members ambushed the convoy carrying 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Col. Gener del Rosario in Datu Unsay around 10:50 a.m. The convoy was on its way to the division headquarters in Barangay Awang in Datu Odin Sinsuat town.

“While traversing the vicinity of Meta Bridge in Barangay Meta in Datu Unsay, an improvised explosive devise exploded, hitting the convoy. Heavy exchanges of fire ensued,” Hermoso said.
