/ 12:02 AM May 13, 2014

Unidentified armed men set off an improvised explosive device (IED) on a roadside some 5 kilometers from a busy highway in Pikit town on Monday morning, police and military authorities said.

Senior Insp. Jojie Nicolas, speaking on behalf of the North Cotabato police provincial office, said nobody was hurt in the explosion that occurred at 6:05 a.m. He said a highway between Barangays Batulawan and Poblacion Pikit was temporarily closed while Army and police bomb experts were conducting an investigation.

Police found three other IEDs at the roadside but while Army and police bomb experts were defusing an IED, one went off some 10 meters away.  Edwin Fernandez, Inquirer Mindanao
