The deputy provincial governor of Ghazni province says groups of militants, including some on motorbikes, attacked three police checkpoints. Mohammad Ali Ahmadi says the attacks happened on the outskirts of the city of Ghazni early on Monday.
The attacks left one policeman and two civilian women dead. Ahmadi says two policemen and six civilians were wounded, including three children.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Last week, the Taliban said they would launch their spring offensive on May 12.
Elsewhere in eastern Afghanistan, attackers targeted a police vehicle and detonated a roadside bomb in Jalalabad on Monday. Six people were wounded, including two policemen.
