BIR files tax evasion complaint vs Manila-based contractor

MANILA, Philippines—The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) a tax evasion complaint against a Manila-based contractor.

Charged with violating Section 255 of the Tax Code is Benedicto Pasco Caguimbal, owner of Caguimbal electrical works.

Based on the BIR complaint, Caguimbal’s tax deficiency for 2010 is in the aggregate amount of P6.45 million, inclusive of increments, consisting of P4.56 million in Income Tax (IT) and P1.89 million in Value Added Tax (VAT).

The BIR sent several notices to Caguimbal but he refused to settle his tax liabilities. Coleen Barnachea, OJT
