MANILA, Philippines – Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo can go to Europe, the Sandiganbayan said Thursday.
In an order issued by the anti-graft court 5th Division, it said that despite objections from the prosecution, the court was granting Arroyo’s request to go to the United Kingdom, Scotland, France and Italy from May 17 to June 10 but with the following conditions:
* The travel shall be from May 17 to June 10 only;
* His itinerary shall be the four countries only and not any other place;
* A travel bond which he has not withdrawn shall guarantee his faithful compliance to the conditions set by the court;
* Five days upon his arrival, he shall personally inform the court and submit a photocopy of his passport showing a stamp from the Bureau of Immigration of his arrival.
The Sandiganbayan order was signed by Associate Justices Roland Jurado, Napoleon Enoturan and Oscar Herrera Jr.
Arroyo and several officials of the Philippine National Police are facing a graft case in connection with the anomalous purchase of helicopters for the PNP.
Pre-trial on the case is set on June 16.
