MRT ‘express run’ launched

MANILA, Philippines—The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 launched Wednesday morning the two-week experimental run of its “Express Train Service.”

The express run in the morning starts from the North Avenue Station in Quezon City at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 9:00 a.m. It makes select stops in other Quezon City, Makati City, and Pasay City stations.This will run until May 20.

Meanwhile, the northbound  express trains which will operate in the afternoon will start at the Taft Avenue Station in Pasay City runs from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. from May 13 to 20. It will make stops only in select stations in Pasay City, Makati City and Quezon City.

All express trains will make only five stops from the time they are deployed until they reach the final stations.

The southbound trains in the morning will depart at North Avenue station, then make a stop in only one of the succeeding Quezon City stations: Quezon Avenue, GMA-Kamuning and Cubao. The train will not make stops in Mandaluyong and Pasig, and will instead proceed to Buendia, Ayala, Magallanes, and Taft Avenue stations.

For the afternoon runs, the trains will take off from Taft Avenue, and will make a pick-up stop at either Magallanes station, Ayala station, or Buendia station. They will not make stops in the Pasig and Mandalyong areas, and instead proceed to Cubao, GMA-Kamuning, Quezon Avenue and North Avenue stations.

In a statement, the MRT-3 management said it would evaluate the results of the experimental run would make its recommendation to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) on whether the express train service would be made permanent or not.
