Barangay councilor shot dead in Manila
MANILA, Philippines–A barangay kagawad (village councilor) was shot dead in his sleep by still unidentified assailants in Manila before dawn Friday.
A radio report said Jesus Lita, Barangay 286 Zone 26 councilor, was sleeping inside his residence along Valderama Street in Manila when his attackers broke into his house and shot him dead.
An officer from Manila Police District Homicide Section refused to give details to INQUIRER.net while the police are still finalizing the incident report.
The radio report said he was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Lita was said to have been shot by the attackers using a calibre .45 pistol.
Authorities are looking into the possibility that the motive behind Lita’s killing was drug-related.
