More than 1,000 Labor Day protesters expected in Rotonda

MANILA, Philippines–Local police expect a crowd of up to 1,400 in Welcome Rotonda for Labor Day (May 1) rallies.

Superintendent Ronnie Montejo, Battalion Commander of District Public Safety Battalion, said on Thursday they deployed 200 policemen for Welcome Rotonda alone.

Welcome Rotonda is one of the assembly areas of protesters in Metro Manila.

Other convergence points are Monumento, Quirino, Stop N Shop, and Plaza Hernandez in the morning. They will march to Liwasang Bonifacio before 1 p.m. and then to Mendiola in the afternoon.

Protests will also be held in Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Panay Islands, Northern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao, Western Mindanao, far south Mindanao and Eastern Mindanao.

Kilusang Mayo Uno earlier said it expects thousands to attend the protests.
