MANILA, Philippines—The University of the Philippines (UP) was ranked among best university in the South East Asian (SEA) region in 2013, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings showed.
UP, the country’s premiere university was ranked 9th and the lone Philippine university in the top 10 best SEA university.
UP has continuously maintained its 151-200 rank in the QS world university rankings.
It has seven constituent universities in 15 campuses across the country with its flagship campus located in Diliman, Quezon City.
The 106-year old university is home to thousands of students from across the nation dubbed as “Iskolar ng Bayan.”
Meanwhile, the 65-year old National University of Singapore was named the best SEA University. It is the flagship university of Singapore and has been consistently included as one of the world’s top universities.
Nangyang Technology University landed on the second spot followed by Universiti Malaysia, and the Mahidol Universiti and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
The sixth to tenth spot was occupied by the following universities:
- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia,
- University Sains Malaysia,
- University of Indonesia,
- University of the Philippines,
- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
QS Asian University Rankings 2013 ranked the schools according to nine indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student, citations per paper, international faculty, international students, papers per faculty, inbound exchange, and outbound exchange.
