3 killed, 3 injured in Malate fire – report

MANILA, Philippines – At least three people were killed and three others injured in a residential fire in Malate, Manila on Tuesday, a radio report said.

Among those killed were Margarita Vilar, 62, Edgardo Vilar, 61, at Merwin Vilar, 42, who all died due to acute respiratory failure secondary to smoke inhalation or suffocation, the report said. The fatalities were all related.

The fire started at the third floor of a house in Jorge Bacobo street  at around 3 p.m. It was declared under control around 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman who was in a wheelchair was injured as she was being saved from the fire. Two others were injured due to suffocation, the report said.
