PHLPost to unveil 3-D stamps of 2 popes on canonization day
MANILA, Philippines – In honor of the two popes who will be canonized this Sunday (Manila time) at the Vatican, special three-dimensional stamps will be unveiled, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) announced Friday.
The special commemorative stamps and souvenir sheets of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII will be formally presented to Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle during the parallel celebration of their canonization at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City Sunday.
The PHLPost said the stamps would be a first of its kind – “a unique 3D, embossed, and in gold foil stamping of the Circular Postage Stamps valued at P200 per piece.”
The souvenir sheet, meanwhile, is measured at 105 millimeters by 70 millimeters while the stamps are 38 mm.
“Graphic designer and in-house layout artist Jose Antonio Jayme designed the canonization stamps,” the statement added.
In total, 10,000 pieces of Blessed John Paul II souvenir sheets and 5,000 copies for Pope John XXIII were made available by the postal corporation.
These will be sold at the Post Shop and PHLPost Philatelic & Retail Division at the Manila Central Post Office Building along Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila City.
