Singson apologizes for delay in Edsa road repairs

MANILA, Philippines – Public works Secretary Rogelio Singson apologized to the public on Monday for the inconvenience their road repair projects along Edsa caused motorists.

Singson made the statement after he led the opening of the main artery joining north and southern part of Metro Manila after several weekends of road reblocking and repair projects, particularly during the Holy Week.

“I’m asking for an apology to those bothered by our projects. Our workers strove to finish the work, even to the point of working for three shifts since Tuesday,” Singson said in Filipino during an interview over Inquirer Radio 990AM on Monday.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to meet the Monday morning deadline so we opened late after three hours,” he added.

The opening was delayed on Monday morning as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) just finished clearing the Makati Edsa tunnel in front of Forbes Park.

Singson said the repair project in that area was delayed since their workers and the suppliers went on half day on Good Friday.

The repair in that area just started on Saturday, he added.

However, Singson said he doesn’t blame anyone in the delay.

Traffic was heavy along Edsa on Monday morning, but Singson said this was not due to their delay, but to the huge volume of vehicles bound for Manila from the provinces after the Holy Week.
