31 dead in Holy Week incidents—NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines—Amid the solemn commemoration of the Lenten season the past week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that 31 deaths occurred from April 16 to April 21.

NDRRMC also reported that there have been 123 injuries as of 7 a.m. Monday.

Calabarzon, or Region IV-A, had the most fatalities with 11, seven of which came from drowning, three from two separate cases of vehicular accidents, and one from a fire in Binangonan, Rizal.

Cagayan Valley, or Region II, had eight fatalities with six drowning incidents, one vehicular accident, and one shooting incident.

The Bicol Region had five deaths, the Ilocos Region registered four, the Cordillera Administrative Region had two, and the Northern Mindanao Region had one.

NDRRMC raised a red alert status from April 16 which would end Monday.

Red alert means that all of NDRRMC personnel are on standby for any mishaps that may occur.
