NDRRMC: Dead in Holy Week accidents now 23

MANILA, Philippines–At least 23 died while 99 were hurt in separate incidents ‎as the Holy Week draws to a close, the disaster mitigation council said Sunday.

‎In its latest report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that a total of 36 incidents were recorded in the country during the span of the Lenten exodus.

Vehicular accidents took the bulk of the fatality count as they claimed 12 lives, while nine died due to drowning. One died due to a fire incident, while another one perished because of a shooting incident. Meanwhile, 11 people were hospitalized in Eastern Visayas due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Philippine Coast Guard also said it has recorded three drowning incidents during the Holy Week which has resulted in the death of two people.
