BACOLOD CITY — The Provincial Health Office is baffled by the 500-percent increase in the number of leptospirosis cases in Negros Occidental.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang said an investigation was being conducted to determine why the cases had gone up when floods in the province were not frequent.

Records showed 74 reported cases of leptospirosis from January to Sept. 15 this year compared to the 11 cases recorded over the same period last year.
