MANILA, Philippines – On Black Saturday, the exodus of vacationers has begun.

According to the Twitter accounts of both North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), a high volume of vehicles carrying vacationers from the provinces have started lining up at the toll plazas heading for Metro Manila.

On NLEx, the traffic at the Dau and Bocaue toll plazas was heavy as of 5:36 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Twitter account of NLEx.

But the whole stretch in the northbound lane of NLEx remained light, NLEx said in its Twitter account. Traffic, meanwhile, was light to moderate in the southbound lane.

The Toll Regulatory Board has noted light traffic along the expressways on Black Saturday as holidaymakers get a headway back to Manila before the massive exodus starts on Sunday.

The heavy volume of vehicles caused heavy traffic along the expressways going to the provinces on Holy Wednesday and Maundy Thursday.
