Rains, thunderstorms on Good Friday

MANILA, Philippines –Devout Catholics doing their penance on Good Friday have to brace for rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly in Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.

“The whole country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 24-hour forecast on Friday.

The easterly winds will blow from the east and northeast and affect Luzon and Visayas, Pagasa said. Meanwhile, the easterlies from northeast and northwest will affect Mindanao, it added

The waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, Pagasa said.

In the afternoon, Pagasa said light to heavy rain was affecting Bukidnon (Maramag, San Luis, Arch Bridge, Kuya), Agusan Del Sur (San Vicente), and portions of Lanao Del Sur, Lanao Del Norte, North Cotabato, Agusan Del Norte and nearby areas which may last for one to two hours.

Pagasa also said thunderstorm was affecting portions of Leyte (Palompon, Matalom and nearby areas) and Bohol (Loboc and nearby areas),  and may persist for one to two hours.

Ranshower was also affecting portions of Cebu (Cebu City, Liloan and nearby areas), Samar (Catbalogan and nearby areas), Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, Pagasa said.
