Wary of ‘stalker,’ cop accidentally shoots self
Thinking that someone was tailing him, a police official reached for his gun and accidentally shot himself while driving home Wednesday night in Quezon City.
This was how Supt. Bonifacio Bosita, who reports to Police Regional Office 3, explained the gunshot wounds in his right thigh and foot to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
QCPD La Loma station commander Supt. Osmundo de Guzman said the accidental shooting happened as Bosita was moving past the corner of A. Bonifacio Avenue and Mayon Street around 6 p.m.
The uniformed Bosita was driving home in an Isuzu Asian utility vehicle coming from Meycauayan, Bulacan province, when he noticed that a man on a motorbike was apparently following him, De Guzman said.
Growing suspicious, he reached for his .45-caliber Pietro Beretta pistol but it accidentally went off, hitting Bosita in the leg and foot.
When the wounded officer pulled over, the man on the motorcycle was no longer to be found.
