Teach kids business this summer–Senator Aquino

MANILA, Philippines—Get the kids off those gadgets a bit this summer and let them play real-life Streetfood Tycoon.

Sen. Bam Aquino on Friday called on parents to put up small businesses for their children—such as an ice candy enterprise or a sago’t gulaman stand—during the two-month summer vacation.

Aquino, the youngest senator and an entrepreneurship advocate, said this will start children on financial literacy that “is a good jump-off point to a successful career in business and entrepreneurship.”

“Who knows, maybe the owner of the country’s next big company could be your son or daughter,” said Aquino, chair of the Senate committee on trade, commerce and entrepreneurship and the committee on youth.

Aquino said parents should establish a small business that can be run by children, “like a candy store, ice candy or a sago-gulaman stand.” Norman Bordadora
