Waterless Holy Week looms for parts of Metro, Cavite

A flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)—the construction of an “interceptor drainage box culvert” or IDBC on Blumentritt Street, Manila—will cause water service interruptions of one to three days during Holy Week in some parts of Metro Manila and the neighboring province of Cavite, according to Maynilad Water Services Inc.

In a statement Sunday, the company said there would be water service interruptions in the following areas: parts of Manila, Malabon, Navotas, Pasay City, Makati City and southern Caloocan City, all in Metro Manila, and the towns of Imus and Kawit in Cavite; and the entire Las Piñas, Muntinlupa City and Parañaque City, also in Metro Manila, and Cavite and Bacoor cities and Noveleta town in Cavite.

“Designed to address the perennial flooding problem in Manila, the DPWH project involves the construction of the IDBC, which will traverse the Maynilad water pipe along the corner of Juan Luna and Hermosa streets,” it added.

According to Maynilad, the project “will require the realignment of the water pipe prior to the implementation of the DPWH flood control project.”
