MANILA, Philippines—Not even a detention cell would stop them from a birthday greeting.

After nearly two weeks in detention at Camp Crame, Benito Tiamzon and Wilma Tiamzon sent their birthday greetings to fellow communist figure Satur Ocampo Monday through a hand-written letter.

“We are thankful for the support and unity that Brother Satur and other progressive congressmen gave us,” the Tiamzons’ wrote for Ocampo’s 75th birthday. “We give a militant greeting for Brother Satur on his 75th birthday.”

In the letter, the Tiamzons said that they are “honored” that they are part of “the special occasion.”

They added that Ocampo is an example for all other “progressive” lawmakers in their fight to end oppression and abuse.
