School head kidnapped in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—A school principal was kidnapped in Sumisip, Basilan on Monday morning.

Jamar Kulayan, education secretary for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said armed men wearing bonnets abducted Betina Latonio, principal of the Manggal Elementary School in Sumisip.

Latonio was on her way to the district office when armed men flagged down the vehicle she was riding at around 6:30 a.m..
