MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday assured students and faculty of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) that their main campus in Quezon City will not be transferred to another location.

“Alam kong may mga agam-agam ukol sa nababalitang paglilipat ng inyong campus. Ako na mismo ang magsasabi sa inyo: mananatili ang Pisay (PSHS) sa Agham Road,” Aquino said during the school’s graduation ceremony and 50th anniversary celebration.

(I know there are uncertainties about the reported transfer of your campus. I’ll be the one to tell you: Pisay (PSHS) will remain in Agham Road.)

The President said Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista will be the first to oppose it. Bautista, who was seated at the stage, looked startled or was caught unaware before giving a polite smile.

Aquino did not elaborate on the reason behind the reported transfer.

The PSHS main campus in Agham Rd. in Diliman is said to be near, if not within, the area of the Quezon City Central Business District.

Local authorities have only recently succeeded in demolishing houses of informal settlers along Agham Road. The area has long been eyed for commercial development. Parts of the large urban community were demolished years ago, paving the way for the Ayala-owned Trinoma Mall.

An alumnus of the PSHS told INQUIRER.net that he was once informed of the possible transfer of the main campus to Taguig.
