Bomb scare rattles Lipa City Hall

MANILA, Philippines–An alleged bomb threat sent to the police chief of the city hit the compound of Lipa City Hall in Batangas Friday noon, radio reports said.

The‎ bomb scare stemmed from text messages sent to Chief Superintendent Jacinto Malinao, Lipa police chief, from an anonymous sender.

‎Authorities immediately ordered city hall personnel to vacate the compound.

In the first text, which was‎ sent at 8 a.m., ‎the sender claimed that three men dressed in female clothes will plant bombs inside the City hall canteen and at the satellite office of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) there.

What prompted authorities to order evacuation from the compound was the second text message sent at 10 a.m. telling Malinao that they have been outsmarted by the bomb planters.

Elements of the Lipa City Police and regional Philippine Air Force and Bureau of Fire Protection are inspecting the canteen and the NBI office as of posting.

Earlier Friday, classes and work were disrupted at San Beda College Rizal campus in Taytay after bomb threats were phoned in to the school’s administration.
