Ex-AFP chief Biazon to Cudia: Start anew in civilian life

MANILA, Philippines –A former Armed Forces chief turned lawmaker said that the controversial Jeff Cudia should no longer try a military career.
This is because Cudia would be a “leper” among his peers for violating the Philippine Military Academy’s (PMA) Honor Code, Muntinlupa City Representative Rodolfo Biazon said on Tuesday.
However, Biazon said he agrees that Cudia should still be given a diploma so he could “start anew in the civilian life.”
“I would agree to him to get his diploma so that he can start anew but I would advise that he should not anymore stay in the service, and complete his resignation because he will be a leper out there…” the former Armed Forces chief of staff said.
Cudia found himself in hot water at the PMA after he was convicted by his fellow cadets for lying when he justified his being late to class for two minutes.
Lying is a serious offense in the Academy as it practices the Honor Code, which states that cadets “do not lie, cheat, steal nor tolerate those who do.”
President Benigno Aquino III did not reverse the decision of the PMA to dismiss Cudia from graduating. The young cadet left the Academy Sunday night or after the rest of his classmates graduated.
Biazon, who was a superintendent in the PMA, said in the 1950s, two cadets found violating the Honor Code were allowed to graduate.
But because of pressure from peers who disapproved of the violation, the cadets did not last in the military service, he added.
“That’s what it is, they have to get out. Give Cudia the diploma, yes, plus his transcript of record, so that he can start anew in the civilian life,” Biazon said.
