Valenzuela City launches job-matching website for residents

Now, job seekers in Valenzuela City won’t even have to go out of their houses to look for work. All they have to do is log onto the city government’s job-matching website.

The Valenzuela City government recently launched www.ValenzuelaTrabaho.gov.ph which it claimed was the country’s first job portal to be launched and maintained by a local government unit.

Officials said the website was aimed at reducing unemployment and underemployment in the city and making it easier for residents to find work. In a statement, Mayor Rexlon Gatchalian said Valenzuela Trabaho was meant to complement the services of the city’s Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) by providing an alternative way for residents to look for work.

“The website will prove helpful to job seekers who want to get in touch with companies themselves rather than wait for PESO personnel to call them about a vacancy or whether they are short-listed for a position. This is also for employers who want to do applicant screening on their own,” Gatchalian said.

Gatchalian said the job-matching website was open only to job seekers living in Valenzuela. They can register online and then go to city hall to have their identity and place of residence checked before their account can be activated. After the verification and activation process, job seekers can log onto the website where they can access a database of job vacancies. The website can also match them with a prospective employer based on their qualifications.

Aside from the job-matching service, they will also receive special privileges such as being given priority over other participants in job fairs and free training programs sponsored by the city government. A check of www.ValenzuelaTrabaho.gov.ph showed about 50 job vacancies for highly skilled workers, teachers, accountants, secretaries, technicians and managers, among others, being offered by companies based in or around Valenzuela City.—Nathaniel R.
