WOMAN ARRESTED IN MANDAUE COURT
A WOMAN was arrested when dried marijuana leaves were found in a pack of clothes she tried to hand over to an inmate in a courthouse in barangay Centro, Mandaue City, yesterday morning.
Miraflor Alia of barangay Poblacion, Lilo-an town, was arrested in the Regional Trial Court Branch 28.
Police said Alia handed a plastic bag of clothes to Richard Urot, a detainee at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center where Alia’s nephew is also jailed.
Urot, who is facing drug charges, was brought to court for a hearing, which was postponed due to the unavailability of prosecutor Hendry Pascua.
Urot and his prison guard escort Henrito Catigtig were on their way out of the court when they met Alia, who handed the plastic bag to Urot.
Catigtig inspected the plastic bag and found crushed marijuana leaves in a pocket of one of the shorts.
Alia said she was not aware that the plastic bag had marijuana leaves.
Alia will be charged with possession of illegal drugs, said police./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
