WOMAN ARRESTED IN MANDAUE COURT

A WOMAN was arrested when dried marijuana leaves were found in a  pack of clothes  she tried to hand over to an inmate in a courthouse in barangay Centro, Mandaue City, yesterday morning.

Miraflor Alia of barangay Poblacion, Lilo-an town, was arrested in the Regional Trial Court Branch 28.

Police said Alia handed a plastic bag of clothes to Richard Urot, a detainee at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center where Alia’s nephew is also jailed.

Urot, who is facing drug charges, was brought to  court for a hearing, which was postponed due to the unavailability of  prosecutor Hendry Pascua.

Urot and his prison guard escort Henrito Catigtig were on their way out of the court when they met Alia, who  handed the plastic bag to Urot.

Catigtig inspected the plastic bag and found crushed marijuana leaves in a pocket of one of the shorts.

Alia said she was not aware that the plastic bag had marijuana leaves.

Alia will be charged with  possession of illegal drugs, said police./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS

SAN REMIGIO INMATE DIES

A DETAINEE at the San Remigio town police station in northern Cebu died after he complained of difficulty  breathing in  his cell last Monday night.

Francisco Ycot Jr., 58, who was detained for murder, was declared dead when police brought him to the Don Severo Memorial District Hospital in Bogo City.

Police said Ycot, who  was suffering from a  lung infection, had been detained since 2008./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

MAN GUNNED DOWN IN TALISAY

UNIDENTIFIED assailants shot dead a 28-year-old man in barangay Tangke, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Jundee Bacayo was walking home when  three men on a motorcycle shot him several times.

Bacayo was rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital but attending physicians declared him dead.
