MANILA, Philippines–Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Monday said delisting of Delfin Lee from the list of most wanted people is an “honest mistake” on the part of the police.

“I don’t want to be speculating but delisting was probably due to the quashing of the warrant of arrest. So, that is a mistaken notion and that it cannot bind anyone,” De Lima told reporters.

The Court of Appeals on November last year ordered the Pampanga court to lift the arrest warrant issued against Lee.

But De Lima said the Court of Appeals ruling is not final and executory because the Department of Justice (DOJ) timely filed an appeal with the Supreme Court.

De Lima said the Philippine National Police (PNP) should be made to explain why they have delisted Lee.

“The PNP might have erroneously interpreted the Court of Appeals ruling…I think it’s an honest mistake,” De Lima said.
