5.8-magnitude quake hits southern Mexico

MEXICO CITY — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake has rattled southern Mexico’s Pacific coast, but no damages or injuries are reported.

Sunday night’s quake was centered just offshore, about 26 miles (42 kilometers) southwest of the coastal city of Pinotepa Nacional, the U.S. Geological Survey says.

Pinotepa police officer Damian Lopez Fidencio says there have been no reports of injuries or damage in the city.

The quake occurred at 5:38 p.m. local time.
