MANILA, Philippines – A Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1 train emitted smoke Tuesday afternoon after its brake scraped on the rail tracks, the LRT spokesperson said.
But Atty. Hernando Cabrera said there was no stampede during the incident at the Doroteo Jose station, adding that the operations were not disrupted.
“The brake emitted smoke due to friction. But there was no disruption on the operations,” Cabrera said in Filipino during a phone interview with INQUIRER.net.
“Passengers of the subject train disembarked and transferred to the next train,” he added in a text message
An earlier report said there was a mild stampede when the LRT emitted smoke around 1 p.m.
Cabrera said no one was hurt. He added that they would look into the black box to find out the cause of the incident.
The train station is notorious for its jampacked coaches as it services an average of 500,000 commuters daily.
The LRT-1 runs from Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay city.
