Jewelry firm workers attacked in P2-M heist
Armed robbers on motorbikes attacked a group of jewelry company employees who had just cashed a P2-million check, wounding one of them before taking the money Friday afternoon in Quezon City.
Police said three employees of R&J Jewelry Inc. were in the company car en route to another bank when the three assailants blocked their vehicle around 2 p.m. on Buenamar Street, Barangay Nova Proper.
The robbers ordered the driver Narciso Basiles, 42, to open the door and shot him through the window when he refused.
Forcing their way into car, they grabbed the money from the two other employees and fled.
Hit in the abdomen, Basiles was brought to Far Eastern University Hospital.
Supt. Norberto Babagay, Novaliches station commander of the Quezon City Police District, said Basiles, Rosemarie Badrina and Marilyn Albano, had just cashed a P2-million check at a Metrobank branch on Gen. Luis Street and were on their way to a Chinabank branch on Quirino Highway when attacked. Julie M. Aurelio
