Gov’t doing intensive consultation on truck ban in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Friday said an intensive consultation is being done in connection with the truck ban to be imposed in the city of Manila starting on Monday, Feb. 24.

“There is an intensive consultation so the solution to be implemented would be acceptable not only in the city of Manila but to the entire Metro Manila,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a press briefing.

“The problem is interconnected, it should not only be an action of a certain local government. That’s why we are coordinating,” Coloma said.

He said that the truck ban would have a great effect on the riding public so they have to study this and consult concrened agencies.

“This will have an effect to those who go to school and office workers, that is why it is being studied carefully so as not to affect business establishments,” he said.

He issued the statement after a truckers association threatened to go on strike on Monday  when Manila officials implement a truck ban in the city.

Under the truck ban policy, trucks are banned to pass through the streets of Manila from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m, Mondays to Sundays.
