Special coaches with lounge sections, reclining seats soon in PNR trains

MANILA, Philippines—Special coaches boasting lounge sections and reclining seats will soon run in the Philippine National Railways to provide convenience amid traffic jams in Metro Manila.
The special coach service is meant to offer a “convenient alternative” to the anticipated traffic congestion in areas affected by the construction of new thoroughfares.
On March 3 this year, air-conditioned train sets with on-board comfort rooms, recliner chairs and lounge sections will start plying the Tutuban, Manila to Sta. Rosa, Laguna PNR route, the Department of Transportation and Communication said in a statement Wednesday.
The DOTC said the special coaches will run four times a day, with fare ranging from P60 to P120 per trip.
In a separate announcement over Twitter, the DOTC said that the service will run at the Tutuban station at 5:47 a.m and 4:17 p.m.
As for Sta. Rosa station, the special coach service will leave at 8 a.m. and 6:08 p.m.
It added that more trips will be added depending on the volume of commuters.
“The PNR will also extend its regular commuter line service, from the current 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., to extended hours of 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” the DOTC said.
The commuter line is serving an average of 65,000 commuters on 70 trips per day.
